COMING AT YOU THE WEEK OF 10.24.23

Hey, hey, hey!

Have you ever tried to be funny for your job? Like write a joke into your ad copy or something? Pretty much all of us have and some of us wish we were better at it.

I’ve shared this advice I heard from Kevin Williamson before because it’s a good and entertaining piece of advice. It’s this: listen to stand-up comedy if you’re trying to be funnier. I will share my favorite stand-up routine below and you can thank me later.

I present to you, “Hitting a deer doesn’t make you a hero” by Shayne Smith.

Cheers,
Hayley

MARKETING NEWS

CHANGES TO CHROME’S SEARCH BAR MEANS LESS GOOGLE SEARCHES

Did you know that the Chrome address bar is called the omnibox? Intense, huh. Well, the omnibox’s recent upgrades are sending you (and other users) more directly to your intended site. Instead of typing “facebook,” and clicking on Google’s first result to end up on facebook.com, you can simply choose facebook.com from the omnibox’s suggested search dropdown.

There are other upgrades working in the background that makes the search/address bar smarter at recognizing where you want to go and sending you there more directly. And that will result in fewer official searches.

A NEW CUSTOM METRIC FEATURE COMES TO GA4 AND IT WILL REMOVE 4 ATTRIBUTION MODELS

The new Calculated metrics feature lets you combine metrics using formulas to provide unique reporting for your business. Meanwhile, First Click, Linear, Time decay, and Position-based attribution models are phasing out.

TIKTOK’S NEW AD SOLUTION INCLUDES BILLBOARD AND CINEMA PLACEMENTS

TikTok’s calling these Out of Phone ads, and they let you extend your TikTok ad campaign from the app to “bars, restaurants, automobiles, airports, gas stations, retail stores and beyond.”

FACEBOOK AND WHATSAPP ARE GETTING BROADCAST CHANNELS

Meta’s Broadcast Channels let a creator invite their followers to a giant group chat. It gives the account an opportunity to talk to members of their audience in a more intimate way, and members get a notification when they receive a message. Instagram already has this feature, and now a Facebook page can create one as well.

NETFLIX ANNOUNCED NEW AD OPPORTUNITIES

The new binge ad format shows a 30 or 60 second ad before playing a commercial-free episode to viewers. They are also offering single-title sponsorships.

LINKEDIN EXPANDS PROFILE VERIFICATION TO MORE USERS

They’ll use more third-party verification partners to make this more available. The process lets you confirm your identity by providing your government-assigned ID. Then, you’ll get a verification badge so people know you are who you claim to be.

TOOL OF THE WEEK

AN APP TO BUILD MOVEMENT INTO YOUR WORK DAY

This app, Wakeout, is full of super short stretches, movements, and exercises. AND it can track your water intake, which I’m a fan of.

I’ve heard some people struggle to get the Mac and phone versions of the app to communicate with each other well. So that’s a bummer. You might want to stick with one or the other.
