COMING AT YOU THE WEEK OF 3.22.22
This week’s most important Marketing News
ย
โUNIVERSAL ANALYTICS WILL STOP COLLECTING DATA JULY 1, 2023โ
R I P
Background: Since 2012, Universal Analytics (UA) has been Googleโs main web analytics service. In October 2020, Google released their new analytics service, Google Analytics 4 (GA4). For the last two years, Google has allowed you to keep using UA.ย But they announced that UA will stop collecting and displaying new data July 2023.
Context:ย We will lose a decent amount of data and specific tracking in the switch from UA to GA4, and gain some new perks. But many feel the cons of GA4 outweigh the pros.
Takeaway: Adopt GA4 and learn how to optimize your collection and absorption of the data there.
โTHIRD-PARTY TOOLS CAN NOW POST CAROUSELS ON INSTAGRAMโ
Instagram has an API that developers need to give you apps with features like scheduling Instagram posts. And, until now, that API didnโt allow carousel-style posting. But now it does, so check your favorite apps for the new feature.
โYOU CAN NOW ASSIGN A MODERATOR FOR INSTAGRAM LIVE VIDEOโ
The moderator can:
๐ข report comments
๐ โโ๏ธ remove viewers from the live, and
โ turn off comments from a viewer
โYOU CAN NOW BY A DOMAIN NAME FROM GOOGLE DOMAINSโ
You buy a domain name for your site, like you buy land for your physical store location. (Although itโs usually cheap to buy a domain.) And Google has been testing a domain registration service for an unusually long time; itโs been in beta testing for 8 years. Now itโs available.
Unlike many other domain registration services, you canโt use Google Domains to actually host your site (except with Google Sites, which is meh). Youโd need to use something like WordPress or Shopify to actually host your site.
โTHIS VISUAL GUIDE TO CRYPTOCURRENCY AND THE BLOCKCHAIN IS HELPFULโ
Nothing can make either of these topicsย easyย to understand, but this visual guide makes itย easierย to digest. Besides this stuff being a ๐ฅ topic, the blockchain is at the ๐ค of web3. And as digital marketers, most of us are trying to wrap our ๐ง around the new-and-improved world wide web.
โMiraLAX CAMPAIGNS AGAINST WORKSTIPATIONโ
Man, this killed me. Itโs a whole campaign about standing up for basic bathroom rights at work (cause weโre all scared to go back to the office and use a community bathroom again).
Their petition states bathroom demands like closing the stall gap and privacy, because โno shoe should be easily linked to any gut-freeing noises.โ ๐๐
How TO GET HIRED OR PROMOTED WHEN THERE ISNโT AN OPEN POSITION TO FILL
It can be hard to put ourselves out there in A LOT of ways, including getting hired or promoted. But Emily Walker has a success story that might inspire you. Emily is a Franchise Marketing Manager atย Crumble, the fastest-growing cookie company in the nation.
Managing rejection
When Emily was still in her early years of college, she wrote down a goal of working for Crumble. Throughout college, she reached out to them multiple times through LinkedIn, but no success came of it.
Donโt just be ready for an opportunity, create it.
After years of trying to work for Crumble, Emily was hired as their first intern. And after her internship, she wanted to get a full-time job with them. She saw the need for a liaison to communicate between the corporate office and the franchises. She presented this idea to her supervisor.
How YOU can create a new job position to fill:
๐ค Make a list of responsibilities you like.
๐ Look for problems that need to be solved.
๐ง Come up with project ideas.
๐ฃ Be vocal and honest about how you feel.
RESOURCES
WorkonaโOk this browser extension lets meย easily switch back and forth between my different projectsย (like email referral program or winter sale campaign) while keeping open all the tabs I need for each project. And I can do thatย without drowning in billions of open tabsย and without my computer slowing to a crawl.
I’m telling you, it’s a game changer.
How it works:ย you create a bunch of workspaces dedicated to certain projects. Then, they save your workspaces’ tabs to the cloud, so they will pull up when you access that workspace at a later time or even on a different device.
โRankMakersโI kind of hate general advice for SEO. I need someone to tell me very actionable strategies. And this newsletter, RankMakers, does that. If you subscribe, you get a weekly email with nice SEO tips.
