COMING AT YOU THE WEEK OF 3.7.23

THIS WEEK’S MOST IMPORTANT MARKETING NEWS

GOOGLE OPENED UP AI TO SEARCH ADS

Google’s AI will output something called “automatically created assets” based on the keywords, headlines and assets you input. They’ll also show you the best combination of assets that you provide, plus new assets that are generated based on your ad’s context. Ad Strength will scan your existing assets and your automatically created assets to give you a grade and then offer suggestions to improve.

LINKEDIN ADDED NEW ELEMENTS ON PROFILES PLUS NEWSLETTER SCHEDULING

From the big dogs: ““Whether it’s images, videos, newsletters or documents, you get to choose the content type your Activity section shows first… as a result your network will quickly find and engage with your content, leading to more professional connections and opportunities.” These updates will be rolled out in the next few weeks. Probably time to update your profile to account for these new changes.

LINKEDIN ADDED MORE TOOLS FOR JOB SEEKERS AND UPDATED JOB ALERTS

Looking for more work? LinkedIn’s updates can increase your chances of being messaged by a recruiter by 2x, help companies “resume match” with you just using search and unlocks second-degree hiring options so you can see who else in your network is actively hiring / looking for a job.

BIDEN ADMINISTRATION GIVES AGENCIES 30 DAYS TO BAN TIKTOK

It’s official, TikTok is banned from all federal agency and vendor devices, and they have 30 days to comply. They’re still desperately trying to put out fires throughout the world. We’ll see how long they last

META ADDED NEW FEATURES FOR REELS, MEMORIES & TRENDING TEMPLATES

Reels can now be 90 seconds long. Memories can be shared as Reels. Grooves is a new feature that automatically aligns your video with the beat of the music you choose. They also added a bunch new Reel templates so you can keep up with current trending video formats and styles. The whole goal here is to create content faster that is increasingly more engaging.

GROWING UP NEWSLETTER

Ok, this one is for my SaaS and software marketers. Brendan humble-brags that 78% of his subscribers read each email he sends out. That’s wild. But it makes sense because his emails share the results of the regular survey he sends to 600 SaaS marketers asking them what they’re doing that works (for their marketing and career tactics). So if you don’t want that, I don’t know what to do with you.

TIKTOK DROPPED NEW AUDIO CATALOG

This entire music library is free to use and can be used for any and all organic and ad content. You can explore music by lots of criteria and should really speed up production time.

A ROADMAP FROM 1,000 VISITORS A MONTH TO 37,000

This Twitter post unloads a TON of content in one almost-impossible-to-read image. Keval shares how he grew a partners company from 1,000 – 37,000 unique clicks / month. He outlines how to set up your SEO, content creation, and link building for maximum conversions.

GOOGLE ANNOUNCED NEW DESIGNS TO IMPROVE YOUR AD WORKFLOWS

These updates will make Google ads more organized and easier to navigate. All it’s current features will remain active plus they’re adding a few things like a new nav bar, two new navigation categories: “goals” and “audiences, keywords and content”, and refreshed interface. We’re not sure when these changes will drop but hopefully soon.

WHY WE BUY NEWSLETTER

I really look forward to these emails because often when talking about psychology for marketing, the content is interesting but abstract. But these fill the cup with interesting buyer psychology AND they share solid, practical tactics. To learn more before subscribing, follow that link up above.

HOW TO FIND ADS YOU’VE SEEN ON SOCIAL

It’s kind of weird how often I want to go back and look at ads that have come across my social feeds—as a marketer and as a normal person. But I hear it’s a thing for many of us. So here’s how to do it for

  • LinkedIn
  • YouTube
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • Facebook

As far as I can find, Twitter doesn’t offer a way to do that anymore. Let me know if you know how or of some workaround.

LinkedIn

On LinkedIn, you can’t find the exact ads that have appeared on your feed. But you can see the ads any Company Pages are running.

  1. Go to company Page
  2. Click on Posts
  3. Click on Ads
  4. See the ads posted by the company

How to find ads you’ve seen on YouTube

On YouTube you can trace back to most ads you’ve seen recently.

  1. Click on your profile
  2. Go to settings
  3. Click on History and privacy
  4. Choose Manage all activity
  5. You’ll see both ads and videos you’ve watched lately

How to find ads you’ve seen on Instagram

On Instagram you can only find ads that you’ve clicked on or interacted with. So, if you’re like me and never click on ads, you’ll have to go click on some before anything will show up in your Ad activity.

  1. Navigate to your profile
  2. Click on the hamburger icon
  3. Choose Settings
  4. Then, Ads
  5. And finally, Ad activity

How to find ads you’ve seen on TikTok

TikTok will show you ads you’ve clicked on or interacted with, but not every ad that’s appeared on your feed.

  1. Go to your Profile
  2. Click the hamburger icon
  3. Choose Settings and privacy
  4. Navigate to Ads
  5. Choose Your ad activity

How to find ads you’ve seen on Facebook

The FB Ads Library is pretty cool. But it doesn’t automatically show you ads from your recent feed. For some of us, there’s a relatively easy way to find ads we’ve seen on FB. But that option doesn’t appear for everyone. So if this first way doesn’t work for you, check the second.

  1. Navigate to your profile menu by clicking the hamburger icon or your profile image in the bottom right corner
  2. Choose Recent Ad Activity

If that doesn’t work, try this.

  1. Go to profile
  2. Scroll down to Settings and Privacy
  3. Choose Ad Preferences

This option will take you to a list of Pages you’ve seen ads from. But not the ads you’ve seen. However, you can go to those companies’ pages and look at ads they’re serving. I show how to do that below.

Here’s how to see ads that Pages are serving

  1. Navigate to the company’s Facebook Page
  2. Scroll to the Page Transparency section
  3. Select See all
  4. Click on Ads Library from the Ads from this page section
